Welsh Indoors and Wallingford Head
It's been a busy weekend for our athletes; on Saturday our novices ripped it up at Welsh Indoors, and on Sunday our seniors shivered down the course in Wallingford.
Welsh Indoors has been a great introductory events for out novices the last couple of years, and this was no exception. We took around 30 novices to the race, with the majority competing in the 1k fresher events. Other uni boat clubs bought some tough opposition with Cardiff Uni and Cardiff Met edging out our girls to claim the podium spots in the WStu1k, our boys on the other hand were too strong for the men in red, claiming Gold and Bronze in the MStu1k. Our honorary novice for the day Ewan Mortlock also did the club justice coming 2nd in the MStu2k with an very solid 6:24.0.

Sunday brought a long, cold race for our seniors, but they put up a good fight. Our M8+ came 4th in Op 8+ Band-4 with a time of 15:27.5, a very respectable result for this point in the season. Our women also performed very well with an outstanding 2nd in W 4+ BAND-2 doing themselves proud.
Overall, a very promising weekend for SURC, but there's no time to rest. Our interest now turns to Bristol Uni Head next week, a race for all squads. Watch this space for a report of
that race next weekend.
